Today we still have 7 chicks.  None hatched overnight.  Ustream is still not cooperating with us by staying connected.  I tried to get it back up this morning and was unsuccessful.  I'm sorry for the inconvenience! Stayed tune!

chick update

Good morning!  I want to update everyone on the chicks and apologize for the live feed being down.  The district did maintenance on our server yesterday afternoon and ever since, I have been unable to get a connection for the feed.  I am so so sorry!  I will continue to try as I go up this weekend. As of this morning at 5:00 am, we have 5 chicks running around in our pen and one who hatched overnight.  It looks like there is one egg with a crack that I could see. I will post pictures later today so you can see how precious they are!

They are here!!  Charlie was born at 9:14 pm on 4/21/16! Prince and Appalonia (in memory of Prince) were born overnight!  So sorry the feed has been out this morning.  We are working on it as we speak. Stayed tune as there are 2 more with cracks! :)

It's day 20 and I now take up all of the space inside my egg except for the air cell. One more day...let the hatching begin!!

day 19

Hey guys!  It's day 19 and my yolk sac is beginning to be absorbed into my body.  Also, I am able to communicate with my brothers and sisters. Listen closely!!

day 18

Today, day 18, is an exciting day because we can be heard cheeping inside the egg now that our beaks are in the air cell. You might want to go online and listen to see if you can hear us. We have only 3 more days until we hatch!

day 17

Today is day 17.  My beak is turned toward the air cell so I can peck the membrane and begin breathing air.

day 16

On day 16 my scales, claws and beak have become firm and rough in texture. Feather now cover my body.

day 15

Today is day 15 and I am continuing to grow and get stronger.   Only another week until I hatch!

day 14

Hey!  It's Charlie here. Today I am going to move so that my head is towards the large end of the egg so it's easier for me to break the shell when I hatch.

day 13

Today is day 13 in my journey. My eyelids have formed and so have my claws. My legs are fully formed.

day 12

Today my legs are almost fully developed and scales are beginning to form on my legs and feet. I finally am starting to look like a chick but, I need to grow in size to fill the egg.

day 11

Today is day 11 and I am halfway through my journey from egg to chick. :)  My legs and wings are extending and my tail feathers are beginning to appear.

Today is day 10 in my development. My feathers continue to grow and my beak is beginning to harden.

day 9

Today is day 9. My feathers are still forming and I can open my open mouth now!  Soon you may be able to hear me chirping.

Wonder Room creations

Today we spent some time in the Wonder Room using our creativity to create models of a hen house.   As you can see, our chicks would be living like royalty!

day 8

Today is day 8.  My down feathers are beginning to form and I continue to gain weight.  I weigh a little over a full gram now!

Today, we candled our eggs. If an egg is developing properly, on day seven you may see a clear demarcation of light and dark within the egg. Candling devices of lesser brightness may show the top half of the egg as darker while the bottom half remains clear. A visible network of fine blood vessels reaching toward the air space is a very good sign that everything is going perfectly. If you have a good candling device, you may be able to see the embryo itself. The eye spots will be the darkest and are the easiest part of the embryo to see during candling. We could see an eye spot on egg #4.

Today is day 7 in my development. My beak is continuing to grow and I weigh a little over half a gram.  That means I am still very small.

day 6

Hi!  It's Charlie!  Today is day 6 and guess what?  My beak and egg tooth are beginning to form. Remember...I will use my egg tooth to peck my way out of the egg when it's time to hatch .

Today is day 5 and I can finally tell you if I am a boy or a girl. And the answer is...

Today is day 4. I'm still hanging out and growing every day.

Today is day 3 of my development. My nose, legs and wings are beginning to form.

Today is day 2 in my development and you can begin to see the red tubes forming that carry food and air to me inside the eggshell. My heart and my ears are beginning to form.
